Sustainable Innovation in AV: How Technology is Shaping the Future of Displays
The professional display industry is undergoing significant transformation, driven by technological advancements and a heightened focus on sustainability. Samsung, a leader in this sector for over 15 years, continues to innovate by introducing solutions that address current market demands. Phil Gaut, from Samsung, provides insight into these developments.
Innovations in Display Technology
Samsung is expanding its product lineup to include all-in-one solutions, aiming to simplify technology integration for channel partners and end-users. A notable upcoming release is the E-Paper display, set to launch in Q1, this 2025. This technology offers an energy-efficient alternative to traditional static signage, catering to retail industries requiring dynamic yet sustainable display options.
The new product offers a more eco-conscious alternative to traditional promotional methods while delivering the high-visibility signage businesses need. The Samsung Colour E-Paper operates at 0.00W1 when displaying static image and consumes significantly less power than traditional digital signage when changing images. Additionally, managers can remotely control the Colour E-Paper, setting schedules to save energy with automatic wake-up and sleep times.
Additionally, Samsung's VXT platform, a cloud-based content management system (CMS), is designed to streamline digital signage operations. The E-Paper displays are expected to integrate seamlessly with VXT, providing users a cohesive and user-friendly experience.
“E-Paper is designed to complement our traditional signage, addressing static messaging needs and sustainability objectives,” says Phil Gaut.
Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability remains a core focus for Samsung. The company has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. This commitment encompasses the entire product lifecycle—from manufacturing to distribution and eventual disposal. Efforts include reducing carbon emissions during production, increasing the use of recycled materials, and implementing responsible e-waste management practices.
“We’re considering the full product lifecycle, from manufacturing to responsible disposal, ensuring we minimise environmental impact,” Gaut explains.
Samsung’s E-cycling initiatives aim to close the loop one-waste, promoting a more sustainable future for the industry.
Advancements in Education Technology
In the education sector, Samsung has introduced a new interactive flat panel display, the first to feature Google EDLA certification. Available in 65, 75, and 86-inch models, this product is tailored to enhance educational experiences by providing interactive and intuitive tools for both teachers and students. Samsung supports this initiative with competitive pricing and extended warranties, underscoring its commitment to advancing educational technology.
“Education is a key focus for us, and this new product demonstrates our dedication to providing innovative solutions for the classroom,” says Gaut.
The Future of AV: Integrated and Sustainable
As the professional display industry evolves, Samsung’sfocus on innovation and sustainability positions it to meet the changing needs of various sectors, including retail and education. By developing energy-efficient technologies and integrating advanced features, Samsung aims to deliver solutions that are both effective and environmentally responsible.
In a rapidly changing world, the AV industry is proving that innovation and sustainability can coexist, driving meaningful change for businesses and the environment alike.
