Microsoft Teams Room Licensing Update June 2023

Microsoft has updated the licensing model for Microsoft Teams Rooms. To assist our customers with readiness, Pro AV Solutions has prepared this information for you to help understand the new model and process to activate the relevant licensing.

UPDATE – Microsoft have now advised the changes to license requirements for Microsoft Teams Rooms and Microsoft Surface Hubs will be enforced on September 30, 2023.

Licensing Overview

  • Customers were allowed to apply a user license to a Microsoft Teams Rooms device

Everything in Teams Rooms Standard PLUS advanced management (Teams Rooms Managed Services).
Teams Rooms Pro ($54.90 USD Ex GST/ room/ month)
Everything that was in Standard PLUS all the AI advanced management capabilities that were in Premium.

Teams Rooms Basic ($0/ device/ month)
Provides core meeting experiences and is limited to 25 devices per tenant. Limited management functionality.

Surface Hub

All Surface Hubs will require Teams Rooms Basic or Pro license from June 30, 2023.

This requirement will apply regardless of whether the device is configured for Windows 10 Team in Standalone or Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows.

For Coordinated Meeting configuration, you will need booth the primary MTR endpoint and Surface Hub, with a Pro license each.

Upgrades & Renewals

To benefit from the latest Teams Rooms innovation, Microsoft encourage you to transition to Teams Rooms Pro at your next renewal or anniversary date.

  • You can continue to use the Standard or Premium licenses until the end of your Enterprise Agreement (EA) term.
  • To log into the Pro Management Portal, you will need a valid Teams Rooms Premium or Pro license.
  • Take advantage of the available scripts and helpful video audit your current licenses. Aka.ms/MTRLicenseNoticeLearn
  • If you are leveraging a non-Teams Rooms license (O365/M365 A,E,G) you will need to apply a valid Microsoft Teams Rooms license by July 1, 2023.
  • Experience Teams Rooms Pro first hand through a trial  (25 seats/ 60 days).
